Partnership with PIFS and participation in international forums strengthen the Association’s engagement with regulators and experts from financial and capital markets

The rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, tokenization, digital assets and open finance has fueled discussions on how rules and market structures can evolve without compromising investor protection or financial stability. Against this backdrop, cooperation among regulators, market participants and experts has become increasingly important.

Anbima (Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association) has been closely following this debate in Brazil and abroad, contributing to discussions on the challenges and opportunities that emerging technologies bring to the financial and capital markets.

This work includes building closer ties with institutions and forums that contribute to public policy development and the exchange of knowledge on issues that are reshaping the industry.

Innovation agenda

As part of these efforts, the association held the Policy Seminar on the Role and Regulation of Financial Technology Innovation on Wednesday (Sept. 16), in partnership with the Program on International Financial Systems (PIFS). The event brought together regulators, experts, representatives of the financial and capital markets, and technology companies to discuss how innovations such as artificial intelligence, tokenization, stablecoins and new financial products are transforming markets, as well as the regulatory challenges these changes pose for the industry.

For Anbima CEO José Carlos Doherty, technological advances require coordinated action across different institutions. “The challenge is not to choose between innovation and regulation, but to create the conditions for both to move forward together. That depends on ongoing dialogue among regulators, market participants, academia and self-regulatory organizations,” he said.

Jon Ondrejko, Executive Director of Programs at PIFS, said strengthening cooperation among different participants in the financial ecosystem is essential to keep pace with the sector’s transformation. “We are very pleased with our partnership with Anbima and with this initiative, which combines a seminar with educational content. We want to expand our work in important markets such as Brazil and strengthen connections among regulators, policymakers and market professionals.”

For Anbima, closely following international discussions and fostering interaction among market participants, regulators and experts is essential to supporting the development of the financial and capital markets and helping build an increasingly modern, efficient and secure environment.
